Typeform vs Jotform: which form builder fits your forms?

Typeform and Jotform both build forms, but they charge for different things. Typeform sells a conversational, one-question-at-a-time experience and meters you by responses and users. Jotform sells a toolbox with payments, e-signatures and compliance options, and meters you by forms, submissions and storage.

This page puts their own price lists next to each other, adds a table where every cell links to the vendor's page, and ends with a verdict for each side. I make MangoForm, a form builder you pay for once, so it shows up as a third option. I kept it out of the Typeform and Jotform columns and listed where it falls short.

Pick Typeform if

  • You want forms that show one question at a time and feel like a conversation
  • You expect fewer than a thousand responses a month and care more about how the form looks than how many features it has
  • You need SSO, HIPAA or a choice of US or EU data center and are ready to talk to sales for Enterprise
  • You want AI help to draft forms, or response enrichment on the higher Growth Flow plan

Pick Jotform if

  • You take payments or collect signed documents through your forms
  • You want a free plan that includes the standard features, with limits instead of locked tools
  • You need HIPAA-enabled forms and can pay for Gold, the plan that includes them
  • You receive a lot of submissions and want the lower price per submission

Typeform and Jotform, side by side

Each cell links to the vendor's own page it comes from. The last column is MangoForm, limited to features it has today.

The verdict

Pick Typeform if you care most about the one-question-at-a-time experience and polish, your volume stays within the response cap you pay for, and a higher price per response is acceptable. Pick Jotform if your forms collect payments or signed documents, you need HIPAA-enabled features, or you want more submissions per dollar and a free plan to start on. Consider MangoForm if you want to pay once: MangoForm costs $25 once, with no cap on forms or responses, one-question-at-a-time forms and skip logic, but it has no payments, signatures or file uploads, so it only replaces simple surveys and sign-up forms.

The math over 1, 3 and 5 years

Each tool's cheapest paid plan at yearly billing: Typeform Basic at $28 a month and Jotform Bronze at $34 a month. Basic gives you 100 responses a month and Bronze gives you 1,000, so Jotform costs less per submission. Billed monthly both are $39. If you outgrow them, Typeform Business (10,000 responses) is $91 a month yearly and Jotform Gold (10,000 submissions) is $99.

Where MangoForm falls short

No payments, signatures or uploads

Jotform counts payment submissions and signed documents on every plan, and that is the main reason to choose it. MangoForm does none of these today, so order forms, contracts and applications with attachments belong on Jotform.

No free plan, no compliance options

Jotform Starter costs nothing, and Typeform has a free plan too. A one-time price can't beat zero if you stay small. MangoForm also offers no HIPAA-enabled features or SSO, and it makes no compliance promises.

Fewer integrations out of the box

MangoForm posts each response to a webhook and can feed a Zapier hook, and it can end a form with a PeachCalendar booking step. It does not have the long native integration list that Typeform and Jotform advertise.

What each tool counts and bills

On Typeform, the response is the unit. Basic includes 100 responses a month for one user, Plus 1,000 for three users, and Business 10,000 for five. Forms and questions per form are unlimited on every plan. So the question to ask is how many people fill in your forms in a busy month, not how many forms you keep.

On Jotform, the account is the unit. Starter allows 5 forms and 100 submissions a month. Bronze allows 25 forms and 1,000 submissions, Silver 50 and 2,500, Gold 100 and 10,000. Jotform also caps stored submissions separately, from 500 on Starter to 100,000 on Gold, and its FAQ says the oldest response is deleted when you pass that cap. If you run many small forms for different clients, the form count is the limit you will meet first.

Price per submission and per seat

At yearly billing the two entry plans are close: $28 a month for Typeform Basic, $34 for Jotform Bronze. But Bronze lets in ten times as many submissions. At the top of the self-serve range, Typeform Business at $91 and Jotform Gold at $99 both cover 10,000 a month. Jotform is cheaper per submission at each tier I compared.

Seats work the other way round. Typeform includes 3 users on Plus and 5 on Business. Jotform lists every self-serve plan as a single-user plan and says Enterprise is the only multiuser one. A team that shares forms will feel that more than a small price gap. Typeform Growth Flow, at $266 a month billed yearly, is a separate marketing-automation tier I left out of the table.

Where each one is stronger

Typeform's strength is how a form feels to the person answering: one question on screen, a conversational flow, AI help to draft the form, and on higher plans drop-off rates and conversion tracking. If the form is part of how your brand looks, that is what you pay for.

Jotform's strength is what the form can do. Payments and signed documents are measured on every plan, Gold adds optional HIPAA-enabled features, and the free plan keeps the standard feature set and only limits volume. If the form is also an order form or an intake document, Jotform is the more practical tool.

Where a pay-once form builder fits

Many forms are simpler than both tools assume: a waitlist, a feedback survey, an event sign-up, a lead form. For those, MangoForm gives you one-question-at-a-time forms with a progress bar, around 20 question types, skip logic, your own colors, fonts, logo and CSS, a responses table, CSV export and a read-only API, for $25 once.

It is also part of the $49 bundle with the other F*ckSubscription apps. There is a 14-day full refund. I would not move a payment form or a HIPAA workflow to it, and I list what it can't do above rather than hide it.

FAQ

Is Typeform or Jotform cheaper?

At yearly billing the cheapest paid plans are $28 a month for Typeform Basic and $34 for Jotform Bronze. Bronze includes 1,000 submissions a month against 100 responses on Basic, so Jotform costs less per submission. Billed monthly, both start at $39.

Does Jotform have a free plan?

Yes. Starter is free, with 5 forms, 100 submissions a month and 100 MB of space. The page says it includes the standard features and that forms carry Jotform branding until you pay. Typeform also has a free plan, but the page does not print its response cap.

Which one supports HIPAA?

Jotform lists optional HIPAA-enabled features on Gold and Enterprise. Typeform lists HIPAA among its Enterprise features, along with SSO and a choice of US or EU data center. Check each vendor's compliance terms before you collect health data.

Can several people work on the same forms?

On Typeform, Plus includes 3 users and Business 5. Jotform's pricing page lists Starter, Bronze, Silver and Gold as one-user plans and calls Enterprise the only multiuser plan.

Is there a one-time-payment alternative to both?

MangoForm is a form builder you pay for once, $25, with no cap on forms or responses. It has no payments, signatures or file uploads, so it replaces only the simpler forms of either tool.
