Typeform vs Google Forms: free and plain, or designed and metered?
Most people who search this are choosing between a form that costs nothing and a form that looks better. Google Forms is the first: you sign in with a Google account and build. Typeform is the second: a subscription, with the bill set by how many answers you collect each month.
Below are both vendors' own numbers, a table where every cell links to its source, and a verdict that does not pretend the answer is close for everyone. For a lot of simple forms it is not. We make MangoForm, a form builder you pay for once, so it shows up as a third option, kept out of the Typeform and Google columns.
Pick Typeform if
- The look of the form matters, for example a lead form on a landing page or a client intake
- You want one-question-at-a-time forms and are willing to pay monthly for them
- You take payments with Stripe or want AI-assisted form creation on a paid plan
- Your monthly answer count stays under the cap of the plan you buy
Pick Google Forms if
- You need a working form today and do not want a bill
- Your answers belong in a Google Sheet, with email alerts to you on each new response
- You run quizzes, event sign-ups, internal surveys or class forms
- Your team already lives in Google Workspace and shares forms like any other file
Typeform and Google Forms, side by side
Each cell links to the vendor's own page it comes from. The last column is MangoForm, limited to features it has today.

The verdict
Pick Typeform if the design of the form is part of what you are selling, you want conversational forms with Stripe payments or AI-assisted building, and your answer volume fits the cap of the plan you pay for. Pick Google Forms if you need a form that works, collects into a spreadsheet and costs nothing, which describes most surveys, sign-up lists and internal forms. Consider MangoForm if you want to pay once: MangoForm costs $25 once, shows one question at a time with your own colors and fonts, and has no cap on forms or responses, but it takes no payments, files or signatures, so use it only if you want the Typeform look without the Typeform bill.

The math over 1, 3 and 5 years
Typeform Basic at $28 a month billed yearly is $336 a year and stops at 100 responses a month; Plus at $56 a month is $672 a year. Google Forms on a personal account lists no price, so the honest gap between the two is the whole Typeform bill. Google's paid route is Workspace, from $7 per user per month on a one-year commitment, and you would buy that for the mail, storage and meetings rather than for Forms.

Where MangoForm falls short
No payments, files or signatures
Typeform takes Stripe payments and file uploads, and Google Forms takes uploads. MangoForm does none of these, so order forms, applications with a CV attached and signed agreements belong in one of the other two.
Not free, and not built into your Google account
Google Forms costs nothing for a basic form and drops answers straight into a Google Sheet. MangoForm costs $25 and keeps responses in its own dashboard, with CSV export and a webhook when you need them elsewhere.
One founder, no enterprise paperwork
MangoForm has no SSO and no compliance programme, and one person builds and supports it. A regulated workflow or a company-wide rollout is a job for Typeform Enterprise or Workspace.
Two ways of charging for the same box of questions
Typeform bills by volume. Each plan carries a monthly response allowance and a seat count: 100 responses and one user on Basic, 1,000 and three on Plus, 10,000 and five on Business. A single newsletter mention can use up Basic in an afternoon, and the next rung is $56 a month on yearly billing, $79 if you pay month to month.
Google does not meter a basic form at all. The limits it publishes are ceilings meant to keep Forms reliable: 500,000 responses and 1 GB of storage per form from September 2026, and some views stop working past 10,000 or 50,000 responses. A small business would normally never see them. What Google sells is Workspace, and Forms is one piece of it.
What Google Forms does less well
Design is the plain gap. Google lets you change the theme color, the header image and the font, and it shows questions on a standard page. Typeform's whole pitch is the other direction: conversational forms with your branding, which you pay for from Plus upward.
Logic is thinner too. Google routes people to a section based on an answer, and only for multiple choice and dropdown questions. If you need to jump on a rating, a number or a date, that is not on the list. File uploads exist, but a responder has to sign in to a Google Account first, which will cost you answers from people who just want to send a file and leave.
There is also no payment question. Anything that ends in a card payment needs Typeform or a tool built for it.
What a year costs
On yearly billing Typeform comes to $336 for Basic, $672 for Plus and $1,092 for Business. Month to month it is $468, $948 and $1,548. Google Forms on a personal account is $0 and Workspace Business Starter is $84 a year for one user on the commitment price.
Over five years Basic alone is $1,680 for 100 responses a month. Only one of these three is a purchase you can stop paying for and still keep using.
Where MangoForm fits
If Google Forms looks too plain and Typeform's meter looks too steep, MangoForm sits in between: one question at a time with a progress bar, around 20 question types, skip logic, your own colors, fonts and logo, custom CSS, password protection, embeds and a custom domain, with no limit on forms or responses. It emails you on each new response or sends a daily summary, and results export to CSV.
Read the limits above before you buy it. If a free Google Form already does the job, keep it.
FAQ
Is Google Forms really free?
For a personal Google account Google prints no price for Forms, and its Workspace FAQ separates paid business services from its free consumer apps. Paid Workspace plans start at $7 per user per month on a one-year commitment and add business features.
Is Typeform worth paying for over Google Forms?
Only if the look of the form or Stripe payments matter to you. For surveys, sign-ups and internal forms, Google Forms collects the same answers and sends them to a spreadsheet at no cost.
What happens when a Typeform plan runs out of responses?
Each plan includes a set number of responses a month, from 100 on Basic to 10,000 on Business, and the pricing page points you to a higher plan when you need more.
Does Google Forms have a response limit?
Google's help page says that from September 2026 each form can hold up to 500,000 responses and 1 GB of data. Past that you download and delete responses to keep collecting.
Is there a one-time payment option for forms?
MangoForm is $25 once, or part of the $49 F*ckSubscription bundle. It suits surveys, feedback and lead forms, not payments or file collection.
Pay once. Keep it.
MangoForm is $25 one time. The bundle is $29 one time and includes MangoForm and our other live apps, with future updates.
