SurveyMonkey pricing explained: individual and team plans
SurveyMonkey sells two separate price lists. The individual list has a free Basic plan and three paid plans for one person: Standard Monthly, Advantage Annual and Premier Annual. The team list starts at three people and charges per user. I read both on SurveyMonkey's own pricing pages on 2026-10-10, in US dollars. The site shows euros to visitors in Europe, so the numbers below are the US ones, not what you will see from France or Germany.
Two things decide the bill: the number of responses you are allowed to collect, and whether you will pay a year upfront. The cheapest paid way to use SurveyMonkey for a single month costs almost four times the yearly rate, and going over a response cap is billed per extra response. This page walks through each plan, what pushes people up a level, and what a few typical setups cost over one, two and three years.

What forces an upgrade
Each row links to the SurveyMonkey page it comes from.
| From | To | What pushes you there |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Standard Monthly | A survey needs more than 10 questions, custom design, skip logic, email invitations or a data export. Those all start on the first paid plan.source, 2026-10-10 |
| Standard Monthly | Advantage Annual | You pass 1,000 responses in a month, want to accept payments, or need statistical significance, multi-survey analysis or AI and thematic analysis. The move also means paying a year upfront.source, 2026-10-10 |
| Advantage Annual | Premier Annual | You need white label branding, a redirect after completion, advanced logic, multilingual surveys, crosstabs or phone support, or you expect more than 15,000 responses in a year.source, 2026-10-10 |
| Advantage Annual | Team Advantage | A second and third person must create or analyze surveys. Each person needs their own seat, accounts may not be shared, and team plans require at least 3 users.source, 2026-10-10 |
| Team Premier | Enterprise | You need single sign-on, a choice of data center, a custom subdomain or a response limit above 100,000 a year. Enterprise starts at 5 users and is quoted after a demo.source, 2026-10-10 |

What SurveyMonkey does well
A free plan you can actually start on
Basic costs nothing, allows unlimited surveys and includes sharing by link, social media and website embeds. The 10-question cap is tight, but for a short poll it is enough and there is no trial clock.
Analysis tools in the paid tiers
Advantage lists statistical significance, multi-survey analysis, AI analysis and thematic analysis, and Premier adds crosstabs. If you read survey results for a living, this is what the subscription is buying.
A respondent panel
SurveyMonkey Audience is a separate product on the same page. You pick the kind of people you want to hear from by country, age, income or job, and the page lists unlimited responses inside an Audience project. A form tool you host yourself cannot do that.
Team and enterprise controls
Team plans add roles, permissions and shared brand assets. Enterprise lists single sign-on, a US, Canada or EU data center and centralized billing, which a small business rarely needs but a company with an IT review does.
Response caps are what you really pay for
Every paid plan carries a response allowance, and the FAQ says it is counted across all surveys and all users. Standard allows 1,000 a month, Advantage 15,000 a year, Premier 40,000 a year. Team Advantage allows 50,000 a year and Team Premier 100,000. Past the limit you are charged $0.15 for each extra response.
At that rate, 5,000 extra responses is $750. One customer survey sent to a big list can cost more than the plan itself, so estimate your list size before you pick a tier. Basic works differently: it lets you view a limited number of responses per survey, and the figure is only shown inside an account.
Why Standard Monthly looks so expensive
Standard Monthly is the only paid individual plan billed month to month, and it costs $149. That is $1,788 for a full year. Advantage Annual costs $468 for a year, which is $39 a month. The step from one to the other is a commitment, not a feature gap: Advantage includes everything in Standard and more.
SurveyMonkey's own advice for someone with a single survey to send is to use Basic or Standard on monthly billing. Read that as a one-month rental. The page also says auto-renew is on by default, and that turning it off drops you to a free plan at the end of the billing cycle. Responses older than 365 days beyond your Basic limit are then deleted under its data retention policy.
What each setup costs over one, two and three years
Advantage Annual is $468 after one year, $936 after two and $1,404 after three. Premier Annual is $1,668, $3,336 and $5,004. Standard Monthly, if you stayed on it all year, would be $1,788, $3,576 and $5,364.
On team plans the multiplier is seats. Three people on Team Advantage pay $30 each a month, $1,080 a year, so $3,240 over three years. Three people on Team Premier pay $92 each, $3,312 a year and $9,936 over three years. Five people on Team Premier come to $5,520 a year. All of this assumes the prices stay as they are today, and taxes are not included.
Seats, devices and the three-user minimum
Each person who collaborates needs their own seat. At checkout you choose how many Full Access seats, which can create, send and analyze, and Analyst seats, which can only view, comment on and analyze shared surveys. Each user can register up to 2 devices, and accounts may not be shared.
The FAQ answers the question people ask directly: a team plan cannot be bought for two users, the minimum is 3. Two partners who both need to build surveys therefore pay for two individual plans, or for three team seats. Extra people invited beyond your seat count are billed a prorated overage.
Which plan fits which person
Stay on Basic if your surveys are short and you do not mind the question cap. Take Advantage Annual if you run a handful of surveys a year, want logic and design control, and expect fewer than 15,000 responses. Premier is for people who need crosstabs, white label branding or phone support. Team plans make sense once three or more people are actually building surveys.
There is also a case where a subscription is the wrong shape. If you collect feedback from your own audience and answer the same questions every month, paying every month for caps you may hit is a poor trade. MangoForm costs $25 once, has no cap on forms or responses, and covers around 20 question types, skip-to logic, branding and CSV export. It has no respondent panel, takes no payments and cannot upload files, so it replaces the individual plans only for simple, own-audience surveys.
FAQ
How much does SurveyMonkey cost per month in the US?
Basic is free. Standard Monthly is $149 billed monthly. Advantage Annual is $39 a month ($468 billed annually) and Premier Annual is $139 a month ($1,668 billed annually). Team plans are $30 and $92 per user a month, billed annually. Read on 2026-10-10.
Is there a free SurveyMonkey plan?
Yes. Basic is free for one user and allows unlimited surveys, but limits you to 10 questions per survey, some question types and a limited number of responses shown per survey.
What happens if I go over my response limit?
On paid plans you are charged $0.15 for each additional response. The limit is counted across all your surveys and, on team plans, across all users.
Can I buy a SurveyMonkey team plan for two people?
No. The FAQ says team plans require a minimum of 3 users. Enterprise starts at 5 users.
Is SurveyMonkey priced the same outside the US?
No. The pricing page shows local currency, and from a European address it listed euros for the same plans. The figures on this page are the US dollar ones.
Can I pay for SurveyMonkey monthly instead of yearly?
Only on Standard Monthly at $149. Advantage and Premier are listed as annual plans, and the team plans are billed annually.
