A UserJot Starter alternative for people who want to own the board

UserJot has a free plan that is better than most paid plans elsewhere. It gives you unlimited users, unlimited posts, two feedback boards, a public roadmap, a public changelog and three admin roles for $0. If that covers you, stay on it. We are not going to argue you out of a free tool that does the job.

This page is for the smaller group that hits a wall on the free plan and starts looking at $29 a month. On UserJot, a custom domain, private boards, moderation and more than two boards all start at Starter. Removing the "Powered by UserJot" line starts at Professional. FigVote is $39 once and has all of those, with no FigVote branding on public pages. Below are the numbers with their sources, what UserJot does better, and who should not switch.

FigVote is a good fit if

  • You are on UserJot Starter mainly for the custom domain and private boards, and you would rather pay once
  • You want your board to carry only your own name and logo, without paying for the Professional plan
  • You want to approve new posts and comments before they appear, without a monthly fee
  • You run one product and a handful of boards, and a small team of admins is enough
  • You want an export of posts, votes and comments you can keep

Stay on UserJot if

  • You are on UserJot Free and two public boards, a roadmap and a changelog are enough: it costs $0 and FigVote does not beat that
  • Your customers must post and vote with no account of any kind, since FigVote has no guest posting or anonymous voting
  • You need UserJot's single sign-on, or Linear and the other integrations that UserJot lists

The math over 1, 3 and 5 years

Starter is the cheapest UserJot plan with a custom domain, private boards and moderation, which is what most people upgrade for, so it is the fair comparison: $29 a month, or $24 a month on yearly billing. It still shows the Powered by UserJot line, which only Professional removes. Against Free the saving is zero, and we say so above.

Where UserJot is better

The free plan is far bigger than anything we offer

UserJot Free has unlimited users and posts, two boards, a roadmap, a changelog and three admin roles for $0. FigVote has no free plan. If two public boards are enough and you don't mind the Powered by line, UserJot is the cheaper answer.

Guest posting

From Starter, UserJot lets people post and vote as guests, with no account at all. FigVote has no guest mode: voters and posters sign in with an email and password or an email link, or arrive from your own app through 'Identify your users', where your server signs a token for each signed-in user. If friction at that step costs you feedback, UserJot fits better.

Single sign-on, integrations and identity masking

Professional adds single sign-on, unlimited integrations and public identity masking, and Starter includes one integration. FigVote has none of these. It sends webhooks to Slack or Discord and signs its own JSON webhooks, which is a shorter list.

Live chat and a wider product

UserJot is also building live chat and a shared support inbox into the same widget, listed as beta on its own site. FigVote is only a feedback board, a roadmap and a changelog.

What UserJot charges for, from its own pricing page

UserJot's pricing is per feature, not per customer. Every plan, including Free, has unlimited end users and unlimited posts, so a request with a thousand votes costs the same as one with ten. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial.

The gates are specific. Free gives you 2 boards, 5 feedback tags and 3 team members. Starter at $29 a month ($24 on yearly billing) adds a custom domain, private boards, guest posting, moderation, automatic login, 5 boards and one integration. Professional at $59 a month ($49 yearly) adds unlimited boards, advanced search, single sign-on, unlimited integrations and the removal of the Powered by UserJot line.

So the honest summary is that the free plan is enough for many people. The first reasons to pay are a branded address and a board that is not public. The reason to pay $59 is branding removal, and that is the one FigVote includes by default.

What FigVote gives you for $39 once

FigVote costs $39 once. A public board per project carries your own name, logo and brand color, with no FigVote branding on public pages or on the widget. You can run several boards per project, each public or private, and private boards are visible only to members you invite.

You also get moderation before posts go public (optional), merging of duplicate posts that moves votes and followers to the kept post, a roadmap and a changelog built from the same posts, a widget added with one script tag, and one custom domain per project. The Solo plan covers one project with 2 admins, owner included, and 2,000 emails a month; Pro is $79 once for unlimited projects, 5 admins and 10,000 emails a month. After that cap, emails pause until the 1st and the board keeps working.

FigVote has no guest voting, no connection to Jira, Linear or Zapier, and no file uploads on posts. Voting, posting and commenting need a sign-in, either a FigVote one or your own app's, passed with a signed token. If any of those is the reason you use UserJot, stay.

What happens to your board when you cancel or downgrade

UserJot's terms of service, at https://userjot.com/terms, say: "All of your content will be inaccessible from the Services immediately upon account cancellation. Within 30 days, all content will be permanently deleted from active systems and logs. Within 60 days, all content will be permanently deleted from our backups." The same page says that if you cancel before the end of the paid month, "your cancellation will take effect immediately, and you will not be charged again" and that unused time is not automatically prorated.

On plan changes, the terms say: "For other upgrades or downgrades in plan level, the new rate starts from the next billing cycle." We did not find a UserJot page that says what becomes of private boards, extra boards or an existing custom domain when a workspace moves back to Free. Its help center says only that on Free the Add domain button opens an upgrade prompt, and that private boards are available on Starter and Professional. Ask UserJot before you count on a downgrade keeping them.

With FigVote you pay once, so there is no plan to cancel and nothing to downgrade. Lifetime means for as long as we run the app. If we ever shut it down, you get 30 days' notice and an export of your data. You can also export posts, votes with voter emails and comments as JSON or CSV whenever you like, and there is a 14-day full refund.

Who should stay on UserJot, and who should look at FigVote

Stay on UserJot Free if two boards, a public roadmap and a changelog are enough and the Powered by line does not bother you. Stay on Starter if guest posting or its one integration is what you pay for. Stay on Professional if you need single sign-on or the bigger integration list.

Look at FigVote if the reason for your monthly bill is the custom domain, private boards, moderation or a clean board without anyone else's name on it, and you would rather pay $39 once than $29 a month. Over twelve months that is $348 on UserJot Starter monthly billing, or $288 on yearly billing. FigVote's $39 is less than two months of Starter at either rate.

FAQ

Is UserJot's free plan really enough?

For many small products, yes. UserJot Free has unlimited users and posts, 2 boards, a public roadmap, a public changelog and 3 admin roles. You give up a custom domain, private boards, moderation and guest posting, and your board shows a Powered by UserJot line.

Which UserJot plan removes the Powered by UserJot line?

Only Professional, at $59 a month or $49 a month on yearly billing, according to UserJot's pricing page and help center. Starter keeps the line. FigVote shows no FigVote branding on its public pages or widget.

Can I use a custom domain with FigVote?

Yes. FigVote serves the board, posts, roadmap and changelog on one custom domain per project. You add a CNAME or A record, plus a DNS TXT record that proves you control the domain.

Can my customers vote on FigVote without signing up?

Not as guests. Voting, posting and commenting need a sign-in: by email and password or an email link, or, for people already signed in to your own product, through 'Identify your users', where your server signs a short-lived token and they never create a FigVote account. Reading a public board does not. UserJot offers guest posting and voting without an account from the Starter plan.

What happens to my UserJot data if I cancel?

UserJot's terms say content becomes inaccessible immediately upon account cancellation, is deleted from active systems within 30 days and from backups within 60 days. Export first. Its terms also offer a 30-day refund and a 2-week free trial on paid plans.

Can I move my posts from UserJot to FigVote?

FigVote has no import for UserJot data today (its only import reads a Canny export), so you would start the new board empty or add the posts by hand. FigVote exports your own data as JSON or CSV.
