A QR Code Generator Pro alternative you pay for once
QR Code Generator Pro (QRCG, owned by Bitly) is the site many people land on when they search for a QR code generator. Static codes are easy to find for free anywhere. The paid part is the dynamic code: a code you can print once and re-point later, with scan counts. Its plans are subscriptions, and two of the three are billed annually only.
LimeQR does a narrower version of that job. It makes dynamic QR codes and short links, lets you change the destination after printing, and counts scans per day, country and device. It costs $19 once for 100 codes or $39 once for 1,000. Below you will find QRCG's prices as its own pricing page lists them today, what its own help center says happens to dynamic codes when a trial ends, and a list of things QRCG does that LimeQR does not.
LimeQR is a good fit if
- You print a handful to a few hundred QR codes on menus, flyers, packaging or signs and only need to change where they point
- You pay for QRCG mainly for dynamic URL codes and basic scan counts, and the annual renewal bothers you
- You want a logo, your colors and a frame on the code, with SVG or PNG downloads, and nothing more elaborate
- You would rather pay once and know the codes you printed are not tied to a plan that renews
Stay on QR Code Generator Pro if
- You need several users on one account, or your own team workflow around the codes
- You need QRCG's dynamic vCard, document or feedback-form codes (LimeQR's free tools only make static vCard codes, which cannot be edited or tracked), or you generate codes from your own software
- You need advanced targeting of who gets sent where
- Your usage sits well above 100,000 tracked scans a month, or you need enterprise terms and white labeling

The math over 1, 3 and 5 years
Starter allows only 2 dynamic codes, so it is not a fair match for 100 codes. Advanced is the cheapest QRCG plan with a working number of dynamic codes (50) and it is billed annually only, $227.88 a year. LimeQR Solo ($19 once, 100 codes) costs about the same as one month of Advanced billed that way, and nothing after that, but it gives you 50 more codes and no second user, so check the user count before you switch.

What LimeQR does
Only features that exist in LimeQR today. If it isn't in this table, assume we don't have it.
| Feature | LimeQR | QR Code Generator Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamic QR codes that encode a short link on the LimeQR domain; the owner can change the destination any time and the next scan follows (302, never cached) | Included | Yes: edit the destination any time after printing, within your plan's dynamic code count (2, 50 or 250) |
| QR design: code and background colors (contrast of 3:1 or more enforced), square, rounded or dot modules, square or rounded corner eyes, a PNG/JPEG/WebP logo in the center, an optional box or banner frame with up to 24 characters of text | Included | Yes: logo, colors and a frame, per its pricing page |
| Scan counts per day, country and device type (mobile, tablet, desktop) for the last 30 days, stored as daily totals only: no IP address or user agent is kept; link previews and bots are not counted | Included | Yes: where, when and how often people scan; 10,000 scans on Starter, unlimited on Advanced and Professional |
| Create codes in bulk from a CSV (destination, optional custom address and name): up to 100 rows per import on Solo, 500 on Pro, with a ZIP of the QR codes as SVG | Included | Bulk creation from a CSV: 100 codes at once on Advanced, 500 on Professional, not on Starter |
| Short links with a random 7-character address or a custom one (3 to 50 lowercase letters, digits, dashes), fixed once created and never reassigned after deletion | Included | Not listed on QR Code Generator Pro's pricing page |
| A static QR that encodes the destination directly, downloadable from every code page: it works without LimeQR, but it cannot be edited and its scans are not counted | Included | Not listed on QR Code Generator Pro's pricing page |
| Downloads as SVG and as PNG at 1024 or 2048 px | Included | Not listed on QR Code Generator Pro's pricing page |
| Export every code with its short link and destination as CSV, also available without an active plan | Included | Not listed on QR Code Generator Pro's pricing page |
| Redirects have no monthly cap: above the plan's tracked scans per month (Solo 10,000, Pro 100,000) codes keep redirecting and only counting pauses until the next month | Included | Not listed on QR Code Generator Pro's pricing page (it states what Starter's 10,000 scans cover as tracking data, not what happens above it) |
| Custom domains: the owner connects a hostname they control (CNAME + a TXT record proving control); codes then work on https://<their domain>/<code> and their QR codes can encode it. Solo 1 domain, Pro 5. If they leave, they can point that domain elsewhere | Included | Not listed on QR Code Generator Pro's pricing page |
Where QR Code Generator Pro is better
Many more kinds of QR code
QRCG's pricing page says you can choose from 22 types of QR code, including documents, feedback collection, booking, payment and registration, and Advanced and Professional list vCard and plain text codes for bulk creation. LimeQR's dynamic (editable, tracked) codes only point to a web address; its free tools make static vCard, Wi-Fi, WhatsApp and Google review codes, which can't be edited or tracked. If you want a contact card or a file behind a code you can change later, QRCG covers it and LimeQR does not.
More than one person on the account
Starter has 1 user, Advanced has 2 and Professional has 5. LimeQR is one account for one person, with no sharing of codes between people. If a small team manages the codes together, QRCG's Professional plan is built for that and ours is not.
An API for generating codes
Advanced lists 3,000 API requests a month and Professional lists 10,000, used to generate static codes from your own application. LimeQR has no API, so a workflow that creates codes from your own software has to stay with QRCG or another service.
Unlimited scan tracking on higher plans
Advanced and Professional list unlimited scans for tracking data. LimeQR counts up to 10,000 scans a month on Solo and 100,000 on Pro, and above that only the counting pauses until the next month while codes keep redirecting. If you read stats on a very busy campaign, QRCG's higher plans do not stop at a quota.
A company behind it
QRCG is run by Bitly, and its pricing page lists premium support on Professional and an Enterprise plan for custom needs such as white labeling. LimeQR is built and supported by me, one person. If you need a procurement-friendly vendor with support tiers, that is a real difference.
What QR Code Generator Pro costs
I read QRCG's pricing page on October 10, 2026, using a US price view. It offers a 14-day free trial and three plans. Starter is $19.99 a month on monthly billing or $9.99 a month on yearly billing ($119.88 a year), with 2 dynamic codes and tracking for 10,000 scans. Advanced is $18.99 a month, billed annually ($227.88 a year), with 50 dynamic codes. Professional is $49.99 a month, billed annually ($599.88 a year), with 250 dynamic codes.
Prices on this page can differ by country, so the number you see at checkout may not match mine. The plan names and the code counts are what matter most: if you need more than 2 dynamic codes you are in Advanced territory, which is the first plan with a code count that works for a real campaign.
The pricing page's FAQ says the subscription term is flexible only on Starter: "Starter plans are billed monthly or annually. Advanced and Professional plans are billed annually. All subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel."
What happens to dynamic codes when you cancel or the trial ends
This is the question I would settle before printing anything. The pricing page FAQ on canceling says: "In case you don't want your contract renewed, an informal email would be sufficient. The notice period is always 30 days before the end of the billing cycle." On an annual plan that means planning a month ahead of the renewal date, not the day before.
For the trial, QRCG's help center has an article called "How can I reactivate my QR Codes?". It says your codes may be inactive because "Your free trial ended and your Dynamic QR Codes have been deactivated." It then explains: "To reactivate Dynamic QR Codes that were deactivated when your free trial ended, first upgrade your account." It adds that creating and upgrading a new account does not reactivate a code, and neither does creating a new code with the same content.
The same article says that if you have more codes than your chosen plan allows, you are prompted to pause codes. The article is about trials and paused codes. It does not describe what happens to the codes of a paid plan that you cancel, so I will not claim anything about that. QRCG's terms of service say you may cancel at any time and that no refunds or credits are given for early termination, and that on expiration or termination of the agreement the rights and access it grants end. Read that, and the help article, before you print a thousand stickers.
What LimeQR does today
A dynamic code in LimeQR encodes a short link, on the LimeQR domain by default or on a domain of your own (1 on Solo, 5 on Pro) once you add a CNAME and a TXT record that proves you control it. The address is random, seven characters, or one you choose, between 3 and 50 lowercase letters, digits and dashes. Once created, an address is fixed and is never given to someone else after you delete it. You change the destination whenever you like and the next scan follows it.
You can set the code and background colors, with a contrast of at least 3 to 1 enforced so the code stays scannable, pick square, rounded or dot modules, add a logo in the center, and wrap the code in a box or banner frame with up to 24 characters of text. Download it as SVG, or as PNG at 1024 or 2048 pixels. You can also download a static code that points straight to your destination. It works without LimeQR, though it cannot be edited and its scans are not counted.
Scan stats show counts per day, country and device type for the last 30 days. They are stored as daily totals only, with no IP address or user agent kept, and link previews and bots are not counted. You can create codes in bulk from a CSV, up to 100 rows per import on Solo and 500 on Pro, and export every code with its short link and destination as CSV, even without an active plan.
Solo or Pro, and what a scan quota means
Solo is $19 once and covers 100 codes and 10,000 tracked scans a month. Pro is $39 once and covers 1,000 codes and 100,000 tracked scans a month. Redirects themselves are never capped. If you go above the monthly quota, your codes keep sending people to their destination and only the counting pauses until the next month.
Against QRCG Advanced at $227.88 a year, Solo costs $19 once. Against Starter on yearly billing at $119.88 a year, Solo is still a fraction of one year, but Starter only covers 2 codes, so I do not think it is the fair comparison. If you only ever need 2 codes and 10,000 scans, check whether a free static code would do the job first.
Refunds and what lifetime means
Every F*ckSubscription purchase has a 14-day full refund. "Lifetime" means for as long as we run the app. If we ever shut LimeQR down, you get 30 days' notice and an export of your codes before it goes. I will not write "forever", because no one can promise that. What I can promise is that the printed code is not tied to a renewal date, and that the CSV export of your codes with their destinations works whether or not you have an active plan.
FAQ
What happens to my QR codes when the QR Code Generator Pro trial ends?
According to QRCG's help center, dynamic codes created during the trial are deactivated when it ends, and to reactivate them you first upgrade your account. Creating a new account or a new code with the same content does not bring them back. Source: support.qr-code-generator.com, "How can I reactivate my QR Codes?", read October 10, 2026.
How do I cancel QR Code Generator Pro?
Its pricing page FAQ says an informal email is enough and that the notice period is always 30 days before the end of the billing cycle. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and Advanced and Professional are billed annually. Check the current wording on the pricing page before you rely on this.
Does LimeQR have a free trial that deactivates my codes?
No. LimeQR is a one-time purchase, $19 for Solo or $39 for Pro, with a 14-day full refund. There is no trial that switches off the codes you printed. The static QR you can download from any code page works without LimeQR, though it cannot be edited and its scans are not counted.
How many dynamic codes do I get?
Solo includes 100 codes and Pro includes 1,000. On QR Code Generator Pro, Starter has 2, Advanced 50 and Professional 250. Both counts are on the vendors' own pages as of October 10, 2026.
What if LimeQR shuts down?
Lifetime access means for as long as we run the app. If we ever discontinue it, you get 30 days' notice and an export of your data. You can also export every code with its short link and destination as a CSV at any time, so you know what you printed.
Pay once. Keep it.
LimeQR is $19 one time. The bundle is $29 one time and includes LimeQR and our other live apps, with future updates.
