A Formstack alternative for simple forms, paid once

Formstack is built for organizations with real process behind their forms: approvals, document generation, e-signatures, Salesforce, compliance reviews. Its Forms plan starts at $83 a month when you pay yearly, or $99 month to month, and there is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. That price makes sense when the forms feed a workflow. It is hard to justify when the forms are a contact page and a few surveys.

MangoForm is a much smaller tool. It builds one-question-at-a-time forms and surveys, with no limit on how many forms you create or how many answers come in, for $25 paid once. Below you will find Formstack's prices with their source, what MangoForm does and does not cover, and a plain list of who should keep paying Formstack.

MangoForm is a good fit if

  • You pay for Formstack Forms mainly to collect simple forms, feedback and surveys
  • You are a small team or a solo owner and you don't want $83 a month on the books for it
  • You would rather have no cap on forms and responses than 25 forms and 1,000 submissions each
  • You are fine sending answers to a spreadsheet or a webhook yourself instead of using a native connector

Stay on Formstack if

  • You need HIPAA or other compliance features, or your legal team has already signed off on Formstack
  • You take payments, collect file uploads or e-signatures, or generate documents from submissions
  • You route submissions through approvals, or you work inside Salesforce and rely on its native tools
  • Your forms plug into a long list of other business software through Formstack's connectors

The math over 1, 3 and 5 years

Forms is Formstack's cheapest plan and the one that matches what MangoForm does: building and collecting forms. We use its yearly-billing rate of $83 a month. Suite adds documents and e-signatures, which MangoForm doesn't do, so it would be an unfair comparison.

Where Formstack is better

Compliance and HIPAA

Formstack sells HIPAA support as an add-on to Forms and Suite and builds PCI and HIPAA-compliant solutions for Salesforce users. MangoForm makes no compliance promises. If you collect health or other regulated data, stay where a vendor will sign the paperwork.

Approvals, documents and e-signatures

Formstack's comparison table lists routing submissions for approval, generating documents from collected data and collecting e-signatures. Suite bundles document delivery and unlimited signatures. MangoForm collects answers and stops there.

Integrations and Salesforce

Formstack lists more than 300 integrations, including Salesforce, Stripe, PayPal, HubSpot, Airtable and Amazon S3, and sells native Salesforce forms. MangoForm sends a webhook on each new response and has a Zapier hook, so you wire up anything else yourself.

Payments and uploads

Formstack advertises Stripe and PayPal among its integrations, and its forms are used for orders and intake. MangoForm can't take payments or file uploads, so an order form or an application with attached documents belongs on Formstack or a similar tool.

Enterprise controls

Enterprise adds single sign-on, custom SLAs, a dedicated customer success manager and unlimited users and submissions. A $25 app doesn't try to compete with that.

What you pay Formstack for, and what you may not need

On its pricing page Formstack describes Forms as its core form-building product: one builder user, 25 forms, 1,000 submissions per form and 2GB of storage, at $83 a month on yearly billing or $99 on monthly billing. Suite costs $250 or $299 and adds Documents and Sign. There is no free plan; you get a 14-day trial of Forms, and the HIPAA option is a paid add-on.

A lot of that price pays for what sits around the form: approval routing, document merges, signatures, compliance. If those are the reason you chose Formstack, none of this page applies to you. If you opened an account years ago and the forms you actually run are a contact form, an event sign-up and a customer survey, you are paying a workflow price for a form.

What MangoForm covers for $25

MangoForm has no limit on forms or responses. It shows one question at a time with a progress bar, and offers around 20 question types: text, email, phone, number, date, dropdown, multiple choice, rating, NPS, ranking, matrix and a few more. Skip logic sends a respondent to a later question or an end screen depending on what they answered.

You can set colors, fonts and a logo, add custom CSS, protect a form with a password, and serve it on your own domain. Embed it as a standard block, popup, side panel or fullscreen. Responses land in a table, with views, starts, completion rate and average time, and export to CSV. You can ask MangoForm to email you on each new response or send a daily summary. A form can also end with a step that books a meeting in PeachCalendar.

For automation there is a webhook on every response (a JSON POST, with an optional secret header, no signature and no retries), a Zapier hook, and a read-only REST API with a key you create in Settings. It does not write data through the API.

The five-year arithmetic

Formstack Forms at $83 a month comes to $996 a year and $4,980 over five years. On monthly billing at $99 it is $5,940. MangoForm is $25 once, or part of the $49 bundle that also includes GrapeLink and PeachCalendar. The saving only exists if a Forms-level plan is more than you need. If you use approvals, documents or HIPAA features, you aren't comparing like with like and Formstack is the right price for what you get.

Moving over, and the catches

There is no import tool, so you rebuild each form by hand. Most simple forms take a few minutes because the common question types exist on both sides. Past responses stay in Formstack, so export what you want to keep before you cancel.

Check your forms for anything on the not-a-fit list above before you move. A form that quietly depends on a payment connector or a file field will break the day you switch. Lifetime access means for as long as we run the app; if we ever shut it down you get 30 days' notice and an export of your data, and there is a 14-day refund if it isn't what you wanted.
